Summary

This job involves managing a water treatment plant at a Pennsylvania prison, ensuring clean and safe water supply while supervising and training inmate workers in plant operations and maintenance.

It's a hands-on role that combines technical expertise in water treatment with leadership skills to guide inmates in learning the trade.

Key Requirements

  • One year of experience in operating and maintaining a water treatment plant
  • Valid Pennsylvania Class C water treatment plant operator certificate with subclasses 1, 7, 8, and 11
  • Valid Pennsylvania Class E water and wastewater systems operator certificate

  • Skills in performing water sampling, chemical testing (pH, purity, clarity, BOD), and ensuring potability and safety standards

Requirements

As a Corrections Water Treatment Plant Foreman, you will oversee inmate workers as well as the operation and maintenance of a 1.2 million gallon capacity water treatment plant.

You will use solid knowledge and communication skills while working hands-on with inmates learning the standard principles of water treatment plant maintenance This will include:


  • Operating and servicing motors, pumps, valves, water softeners, chemical feeders, chlorinators, filters, flow records, controllers, and related water treatment equipment
  • Performing sampling and chemical testing of pH levels, purity, clarity, and biochemical oxygen demand levels
  • Ensuring acceptable potability and safety standards for human consumption and environmental protection
  • Scheduling inmate work activities and reviewing work for adherence to established procedures and guidelines
  • Training inmates to operate and maintain water treatment equipment
  • Evaluating inmate performance and supervising plant activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with rotating days off.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.


Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or higher than a Class C with subclasses 1, 7, 8, and 11.
  • You must possess a valid Class E certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators.
  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
