This job is for a working supervisor in a county jail facility who leads a team handling daily operations like managing inmate property, laundry, cashier duties, and public reception.
You'll assign tasks, coach staff, evaluate performance, and jump in to do the hands-on work yourself when needed to keep things running smoothly.
It's a good fit for someone with a couple of years in entry-level jail support roles who enjoys leading teams in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.
This recruitment will establish an employment list (valid for up to one year) to fill future Corrections Technician II vacancies as they become available.
This opportunity is open to current DAJD Customer Service Specialists III (CSSIII) and Corrections Technicians I (CTI) who meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the job announcement.
We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Corrections Technician II to serve as working supervisors overseeing both Corrections Technicians I (CTI) and Customer Service Specialists III (CSSIII).
In this role, you will supervise, plan, organize, and assign work to staff across operational areas within the correctional facility.
Key operational areas include, but are not limited to: Resident property management, Public reception window, Cashiering, Commissary operations, Laundry services, Resident intake, transfer, and release.
As a working supervisor, the Corrections Technician II will actively perform the duties of CTIs and CSSIIIs as needed, ensuring smooth operations while leading and supporting the team.The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is a department of over 900 employees consisting of five divisions: Seattle and Kent Correctional Facilities, Juvenile Detention, Community Corrections, and Administration, and includes positions represented by twelve different bargaining units.

Experience creating and managing shift schedules, ensuring continuous coverage across all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
This includes assigning staff based on operational needs, managing time-off requests, and quickly adapting schedules to address last-minute changes or staffing shortages.
DESIRED: This position may be eligible for additional bilingual premium pay above the base salary.
Desired languages currently include Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian and Somali, but may be subject to change.
To qualify for a bilingual pay premium applicants must demonstrate sufficient language proficiency.

CERIFICATION REQUIREMENT: CJIS certification is required from date of hire, training is provided on-the-job. Incumbents must be recertified on a set schedule.
WORK LOCATION: Employees may be assigned to either of two work locations: The Seattle Division, King County Correctional Facility in downtown Seattle, or, the Kent Division, Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
Facility/assignments (both locations and shifts) are based on staffing needs of the department and subject to collective bargaining unit bid processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Candidates must be willing and able to work in all areas of the facilities including work in confined spaces of a secured adult detention facility.
Incumbent will have direct contact with residents and the public on a daily basis and may be exposed to a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations, including exposure to bio-hazardous material.
WORK SCHEDULE: This is a 40-hour work week, overtime eligible position. Incumbent must be able to work varied shifts which include days, swing, graveyard, holidays, weekends and mandatory overtime.
Facilities are operational 24-hours per day, seven days per week.
Facility/assignments (both locations and shifts) are based on staffing needs of the department and subject to collective bargaining unit bid processes.
UNION MEMBERSHIP: This position is represented by Public Safety Employees Union - Non-Commissioned - Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.
