Our agency is actively recruiting to fill a non-permanent Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (CO2) on-call position within the Community Corrections Division. Although this position reports to the Seattle Community Justice Center (CJC) located at 1550 4th Ave South, Seattle, WA 98134, depending on where you are assigned for the day, you may work from the Seattle CJC, Everett CJC, or Tacoma CJC. Shift hours will differ based on need, but you should expect to work within the hours of 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday, and within the unit's counties: King, Snohomish, and Pierce. This on-call position is expected to last no more than one year.

The CO2 supervises individuals who are performing community restitution (work crew/community service) and will be responsible for safety and security, directing and monitoring work, and the direct supervision of supervised individuals performing general labor tasks in the community.

This position will work in a team environment that consists of a Workcrew Program Manager (PM), Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS), Community Corrections Officers (CCOs), Corrections Officers (COs), and Office Assistant 3s (OA3s).

Requirements

Supervise, instruct, and monitor individuals ordered to perform community restitution (work crew/community service) to include safely operating state vehicles and maintaining worker safety.
  • Transport supervised individuals to and from work site via a state vehicle.
  • Monitor supervised individual activities and movement through visual observation of work site.
  • Maintain worker safety and provide rules and safety orientation to work crew participants.
  • Issue and account for all equipment, tools, safety and weather gear used by work crew.
Apply appropriate, constructive, and professional authority by communicating with supervised individuals and staff.
  • Use appropriate de-escalation skills during stressful and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Serve as a positive and motivating role model to work crew participants.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with stakeholders and contractors to achieve desired project outcomes.
  • Conduct inspections and searches of supervised individuals and their property if reasonable suspicion exists.
Administrative duties to include maintaining and managing documentation.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • One year of experience as a Corrections and Custody Officer with the WA State Department of Corrections (DOC) which includes the successful completion of the Correctional Officer training plan.
  • And must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Washington.
OR
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in law enforcement, security, corrections/community corrections (probation/parole), or other related criminal justice position where the position requires security functions and/or regular contact with individuals suspected or convicted of crimes.
  • And must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Washington.
If selected for hire, you may be required to meet the following SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS and CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
  • Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation).
  • Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
  • Become familiar and comply with all department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements, as applicable.
