This job involves supervising adults who are transitioning out of prison at a reentry center in Spokane, Washington, by helping them follow rules, access needed programs, and successfully return to community life while ensuring public safety.
A good fit would be someone with experience in corrections or social services who is patient, detail-oriented, and committed to supporting people in making positive changes.
The role requires carrying a firearm and making arrests when necessary.

The Community Corrections Officer 3, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, contributes to the agency’s mission to improve public safety by positively changing lives by supporting the effective supervision and accountability of reentry center residents under agency jurisdiction.
Supervision efforts will focus on resident's accountability and intervention therein upholding the Reentry purpose statement of providing individuals with focused opportunities for success to successfully transition into the community thereby supporting a safe and successful reentry into the community.
This position has arrest authority and staff who are not covered under the legacy provisions for arming are required to be armed and able to carry a department-issued firearm.

Duties of a Community Corrections Officer 3 include, but are not limited to:
Supervise adults placed in partial confinement at a Reentry Center in accordance with Washington State Law and agency policy and within prescribed timeframes
Engage with residents to work towards positive change
Enforce supervision/placement conditions and the law
Attend and complete mandatory training and meetings as scheduled
Act as the reentry center manager designee when authorized and in accordance with agency policy
*Other Duties as assigned and necessary
Two (2) years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
OR
A bachelor’s degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or the US Department of Education; or foreign equivalent AND three (3) years of professional work experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social service, or law enforcement or closely related field which includes at least three (3) of the following:
Making field visits
Preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or documents.
Assessing cases and making recommendations
Referring people to appropriate resources
Presenting cases in court or hearings.
OR
Equivalent combination of qualifying experience and education totaling seven (7) years.
*A master’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or closely related field will substitute for five (5) years of qualifying experience.
*An associates degree will substitute for two (2) years of qualifying experience.
AND
Staff who do not qualify for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must be: willing and able to possess and use a firearm under federal and state laws, maintain firearm qualifications, and successfully complete ongoing training requirements associated with mandatory arming and potential use of force.
In addition to the above, this position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas (competency may be gained through education, experience, or a combination thereof):
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
Complete Prison Rape Elimination Act forms prior to employment.
Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections and emergency contact information.
Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.
Armed staff must:
Must successfully complete Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training, psychological screening, and criminal history clearance.
Must complete all agency qualifications in firearms academy and requalification training and an annual criminal history clearance to remain armed, when applicable.
Maintain Qualifications per department training standards with Department-issued firearms and with Intermediate Force options (e.g., OC ‘pepper’ spray or electronic immobilization devices), when applicable.
Maintain CIT qualifications.
Maintain confidentiality of information obtained through job performance as protected by agency policy or state or federal law.
Must possess and maintain a vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Washington.

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework.
If authorized for the role, work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time.
Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite.
Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process.
Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
