Full Job Description

The Department of Corrections is seeking individuals whose primary purpose is to provide care, custody, control, monitoring, and supervision of the re-entrant population housed at a state-operated community corrections center, and to assist other staff in facilitating and monitoring the changes necessary for the offender's successful completion of the program for re-entry back into the community.

Requirements

As a Corrections Community Center Monitor, you will provide care, custody, and control of reentrants assigned to the Johnstown CCC, as well as ensure the safety and security of the CCC.

You will observe reentrant behavior through one-on-one and group interactions. You can expect to conduct reentrant counts, searches of their person and property, and inventories of their prescriptions.

In this position, you will maintain the sign-in and sign-out registers for the reentrants and visitors, provide information to visitors, and serve as a point of contact for law enforcement agencies.

As a center monitor, you will conduct the orientation for the reentrants to review the rules and regulations of the facility and provide information on the availability of public services.

Additionally, you may have to attend legal proceedings on behalf of the Bureau of Community Corrections.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours will be determined.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,268.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be willing and able to work in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires shift work. You must be willing and able to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work.(Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not limited to: public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include, but are not limited to: performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military).

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
