Summary

This job involves helping inmates by assessing their needs, managing their daily activities in a corrections setting, and supporting their smooth transition back into the community through counseling and resource connections.

It's ideal for someone with a background in social work or counseling who is organized, empathetic, and comfortable working in a structured environment with people facing challenges like substance abuse.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as social work, criminal justice, or psychology
  • Experience in case management or working with inmates/offenders (preferred)
  • Knowledge of substance abuse issues (preferred but not required)
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills for maintaining inmate records
  • Ability to facilitate communication between inmates, families, courts, and community agencies
  • Skills in providing counseling and coordinating referrals to community resources
  • Must pass interview (70% minimum), drug screening, and conviction questionnaire

Provide casework for inmates focused on incoming processing, inmate programs and re-entry into the community.

Requirements

Essential Function Examples

Assess classification status and determine program eligibility by securing and verifying information from inmates and other sources.

Document caseload status, update records showing inmate progress and prepare reports.

Monitor and direct daily inmate activities and enforce rules and regulations.

Facilitate communications between inmates, court personnel, law enforcement and family members.

Maintain and expand relationships with community service agencies and coordinate client referrals.

Provide pre-release group and individual counseling, calculate release dates and connect inmates to community resources and services prior to release.

Perform other duties as required or assigned.


Qualifications

Equivalent to a related Bachelor's Degree.

Experience in substance abuse is not required, but preferred.


Additional Information

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT:A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.

The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire.

Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
