Full Job Description

Clarinda Correctional Facility is seeking a disciplined, strategic leader to serve as the Correctional Security Manager at Clarinda Correctional Facility.
In this critical role, you will be primarily responsible for the facility’s day-to-day security operations.
You will supervise staff while managing the balance between firm security processes and the rehabilitative mission of the Clarinda Correctional Facility and the Iowa Department of Corrections.

In this role you will lead Correctional Officers, Senior Correctional Officers and Correctional Supervisors, ensuring that all posts are manned, policies and procedures are followed, and the facility remains a secure environment for staff, visitors, and incarcerated individuals.
This position will directly report to the Associate Warden of Security.

Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight: Direct security activities, including perimeter, internal movement, contraband interdiction, and emergency response coordination.
Leadership & Development:
Supervise and mentor subordinate supervisors (Captains/Sergeants). Conduct performance evaluations and oversee specialized training for correctional staff members. Be an active member of leadership in the recognition of commendations for the staff in their individual triumphs. Actively participate in those times when staff disciplinary actions are in need of review.
Incident Management:
Serve as an incident commander during emergency scenarios. Lead investigations into security breaches, use-of-force incidents, or rule violations.
Policy Implementation:
Ensure the facility operates in strict accordance with state/federal laws, departmental policies, and facility procedures. Be engaged in the annual review of policies/procedures as well as the creation of policies/procedures for newly identified areas that fall with in the guise of the security department at CCF.
Resource Management:
Oversee the Management of shifts to minimize overtime while maintaining safety standards for the institution. Oversee the maintenance and inventory of security equipment (firearms, restraints, communication gear and etc.).

Risk Assessment:
Conduct regular internal security audits and vulnerability assessments to stay ahead of potential threats or disturbances. When appropriate recommend/implement corrective actions. Ensure that the institution is meeting operational efficiency in line with ongoing reviews of the security program.

Additional duties for this position include but are not limited to:
Weekly rounds of the institution of the institution to ensure optimal security operations are occurring in all facets of the institution.
Serve as a duty officer on a rotational basis for the institution as set up annually. Participate in assigned meetings.
Participate in the hiring/promotion process for the institution ensuring affirmative action/equal opportunity standards in hiring and promoting staff members.
Interact with the public, maintaining a positive image of the facility, its staff members and the overall function of the institution.
Act as a PREA investigator when called upon to lead investigations for the institution.


Primary hours will be Monday through Friday 7AM to 3PM with 1 day each week working 4 hours on the 2pm to 10pm shift.

All new hires are required to complete the following:

A background check, successful completion after hire of a three-week Pre-service training program in Des Moines IA.
Successful completion of a six-month probationary period during which final job suitability is determined.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

Two years of full-time work experience as a supervisor in a juvenile or adult community/institutional corrections or jail security program Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Correctional Supervisor.For additional information, please click on this link to view the job description.
