Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading and mentoring incarcerated individuals in a prison kitchen, teaching them how to prepare meals, maintain cleanliness, and follow proper hygiene rules to ensure safe food service.

It's a leadership role in a correctional facility where you'll model good behavior and help people develop skills for better lives.

A good fit would be someone with experience in large-scale cooking who enjoys teaching and working in a structured, supportive environment.

Key Requirements

  • Two years of full-time experience in mass food production in commercial, military, hospital, or institutional settings
  • Combination of two years education and experience, with 30 semester hours in dietetics, nutrition, food management, or related fields equaling one year of experience
  • One year of full-time experience as a Cook 1, Cook 2, or Baker in the state executive branch
  • Ability to demonstrate cooking and sanitation methods
  • Skills in enforcing personal hygiene rules through observation, instructions, and discipline
  • Modeling proper social and work behavior for incarcerated individuals
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements within a period after hire

Join our team at the Anamosa State Penitentiary as a Correctional Food Services Coordinator! In this position you would serve the dietary department as a mentor and a leader to incarcerated individuals in the instruction and preparation of meals.

You will be required to demonstrate cooking and sanitation methods, as well as modeling proper social and work behavior.
In the dietary department you will need to enforce personal hygiene rules for incarcerated individuals to maintain sanitary standards for food service operations through visual observations, verbal instructions, and/or written disciplinary measures.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  1. Two years of full-time work experience in mass food production in a commercial, military, hospital, or institutional food services setting.
  2. A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in dietetics, nutrition, food management or a closely related equals one year of full-time experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Cook 1, Cook 2, or Baker.

Additional Information
