Full Job Description
This position is for permanent Iowa Department of Corrections employees. Those in any other status are not eligible to apply.
This position will:Assign and coordinate work activities of incarcerated individuals in the performance of custodial and sanitation services in order to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
Instruct incarcerated individuals in job techniques and the use of products/chemicals and equipment to develop worker's skills in custodial, laundry and clothing tasks demonstrating proper methods and procedures.
Maintain and clean K Building offices and work space.
Perform cleaning duties in the absence of incarcerated individual workers.
Maintain the grounds outside of K Building (i.e... bushes and flower areas, snow removal in winter).
Clean Records and the Mail room area in H Building.
Plan work schedules and work assignments in order to maintain an efficient operation, hiring work crews accordingly.
Maintain custodial, laundry and clothing equipment, materials and supplies, providing adequate inventories and proper chemical control.
Perform minor equipment repairs or arranging for equipment repairs.
Cover for other Correctional Building Service Coordinators operating in laundry, clothing, and recycling as needed.
Assist with special projects involving minor painting and floor care..
Participate in committee and staff meetings.
Make observations and comments on sanitation and cleaning needs.
Maintain incarcerated individual work records as required.
Covers the K Reception desk for breaks and absences as needed.
Escort pest control on a monthly basis and communicate any issues that have been received via work orders.
Maintain records relative to the tasks and activities performed, such as chemical inventories, tool inventories, incident reports, etc.

Qualifications
The equivalent of one year of full-time commercial building maintenance, housekeeping or laundry services experience;
OR
an equivalent or a combination of education and experience, substituting post high school vocational training or coursework in hotel or institutional management, commercial building maintenance, housekeeping or laundry services for the required experience, on a thirty semester (or equivalent) hours or nine months for one year of work experience basis;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time experience as a Correctional Officer with the full-time equivalent of three months of that experience supervising inmates in the institutional laundry, housekeeping or building maintenance services shall be considered qualified.

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required Commercial Drivers License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
