About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision.

Ability to perform the common duties of a Cook that include prepping menu items by preparing the food (i.e., chopping, slicing meat(s) or vegetable(s) or measuring ingredients) and assembling those ingredients by hand for cooking under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed.

Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 45 pounds and constant standing and walking.

May occasionally be required to lift over 45 pounds (e.g., pans of meat, containers of milk).

Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; and is exposed to cooking oils, grease and heat from ovens.

There is danger of slipping on floors which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been dropped. Major Duties:

  • Perform a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, soups and salads.
  • Prepare items such as various forms of hot cereal, sauces, gravies and soups from packaged mixes; broils meats; makes cold sandwich fillings.
  • Use a variety of cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items.
  • Maintain accurate food inventories and rotates stock items to prevent spoilage.
