Full Job Description

This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE).

As a Cook, you will be responsible for providing wholesome meals to students at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.

For this position, the job element method is used to match what the applicant can do against what the work calls for.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of applicants are compared with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (called job elements) needed for success.

If applicants have the ability to do the work, they are considered eligible for the job.

Applicants who appear to meet the prescribed Screen-out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration.

Major Duties:

As a Cook WG-7404-5, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Follow sanitary food handling procedures.

Clean assigned work areas; walls, ceilings, floors, work-tables, walk-in refrigerators, and storage rooms. Make a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries.

Follow safety procedures when operating kitchen equipment. Track students meal plan usage by counting number of purchased dinners.

Prepare different types of food using varies methods such as braise, broil, simmer, bake, fry, steam, stew, and grill. Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients for regular, special, and modified diets.
