Job Description

Summary

This temporary job involves patrolling and securing the Henry B.

Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio to prevent theft, vandalism, or hazards, while monitoring entrances and helping visitors with directions.

It's a hands-on role with shift work including weekends and evenings, ideal for someone reliable with basic security experience who can stay alert and communicate effectively.

No long-term commitment or advancement is involved, as it's at-will employment.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year of experience as a security guard or in a related security role
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License
  • Ability to patrol areas, report hazards, and deter unauthorized access
  • Knowledge of security procedures, first aid, and emergency protocols

Full Job Description

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing patrol and security work at a City facility or related area. Exercises no supervision.

This position is a temporary, "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Schedule
  • 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM or 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Hours may include weekends, evenings, nights and holidays based on the needs of the department

Requirements

  • Patrols assigned areas to eliminate or report fire hazards, deter thefts, vandals, or violence.
  • Takes necessary action to detain or prevent entry by unauthorized persons.
  • Checks buildings, facilities and equipment fixtures and as necessary reports on conditions by often touring, moving about and observing.
  • Monitors and maintains station at entry/exit point to City activities.
  • Provides information and directions to customers and the general public.
  • Maintains activity logs using office equipment and communicates or dispatches through the use of a two-way radio.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • One (1) year experience as a Security Guard or security related experience.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience as a security guard or security related experience
Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
