Special salary range for the Public Service Commission:

The Public Service Commission has established a salary range of $43,879 to $69,696 for this classification.

Under direct supervision at the entry level, this position will perform the following duties: Respond to phone calls regarding informal complaints, informal complaint procedures and general information; Log informal complaints received by phone, as to date, place, time, nature of complaint and relief requested (The same procedure is followed for written and walk-in complaints); Serve as facilitator of negotiations between utilities and customers to resolve problems on an informal basis if possible; Review informal complaints to identify when an on-site investigation may need to be referred to technical staff; Confer with other Commission staff as necessary during the resolution process; Advise utilities as to compliance with rules, regulations and policies to resolve and attempt to resolve complaints informally; Assist consumers with jurisdictional problems in contacting other state or federal agencies when necessary; Prepare summary of investigation and resolution of each informal complaint in a computer database; Confer with utility representatives, business representatives and other governmental bodies, regarding issues affecting all consumers as needed; May compile data regarding complaints for reports; May travel to meetings and participate in seminars throughout the state; and perform related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will have basic computer skills such as working on a PC with word processing software.

Qualifications

Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid public contact work in the resolution of complaints or claims, customer relations or customer service, or complex office support work in a public utility or a utility regulatory agency may substitute for the required training at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours.
