Summary

This job involves overseeing construction and maintenance projects at Smithsonian facilities, ensuring contractors follow plans, stay on schedule, and meet quality standards.

You'll act as a technical expert for contracts, inspect work on-site, and use software to track progress and report issues.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.

This position is located in one of the SI facilities serviced by the Office of Facilities Management (FM), Smithsonian Institution (SI).

The Office of Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year.

GS-11 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.

For this position specialized experience is defined as interpreting plans and specifications during construction; conducting on-site inspections of workmanship; and monitoring construction schedules to ensure projects are completed on time.

Or Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., related to the position.

GS-12 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.

For this position specialized experience is defined as interpreting plans and specifications during construction; coordinating on-site inspections of workmanship; leading a team of crafts/trades persons engaged in construction work; and monitoring construction contract costs to ensure projects remain within budget.

The Construction Control Representative provides expertise in facility maintenance, contracting techniques to best support building systems and execution of maintenance projects.

In this position, you will: Serve as a contracting office's technical representative for OFMR maintenance contracts.

Provide technical assistance and advice to OFMR staff members and/or contractors to assure contractors are in full compliance with contractual requirements.

Use automated technical software to compile information necessary to report and formulate data, presentations or documentation for maintenance assignments.

Oversee management and integration of contractor operations, work closely with Smithsonian personnel, professional engineers and maintenance operators engaged in maintenance activities and projects.

Communicate with personnel at a variety of levels to convey progress, problems and recommendations in a timely manner.
