This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with South Carolina’s commodity boards while providing critical administrative, accounting, and customer service support.

As a Marketing Specialist for Corn, Soybean, and Tobacco, you will play a key role in promoting agricultural industries, ensuring compliance and financial integrity, and serving as a trusted resource for boards, producers, and stakeholders across the state.

Duties include:

  • Providing Administrative Services to the SC Corn Board and the SC Soybean Board
    • Collecting and receiving payments, maintaining financial records
    • Assisting with and ensuring compliance during annual state financial audit
    • Attending board meetings, various other meetings, and training events
    • Serving as the SCDA Liaison to the Boards and/or Board employee(s)
    • Serving as the primary SCDA liaison to other external groups on Corn and Soybean-related issues
  • Serving as the Director of the SC Tobacco Board
    • Directing the marketing, research, and promotion of the SC Tobacco Board
    • Planning and attending SC Tobacco Board meetings, preparing minutes of the meetings, and completing and submitting Board travel
    • Developing and tracking board budget, collecting and receiving payments, maintaining financial records
    • Assisting with and ensuring compliance during annual state financial audit
    • Serving as the primary SCDA liaison to external groups on Tobacco-related issues
  • Assisting with the South Carolina Agricultural Tax Exemption (SCATE) program
    • Serving as a member of a working group to answer telephone calls and emails regarding the program
    • Providing clear and accurate information while demonstrating quality customer service

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in agricultural studies or marketing.

Four (4) years of relevant experience, specifically in marketing/promotion and association or board management at the state and/or national levels.

Individual shall be knowledgeable about federal/state commodity orders, marketing acts. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle.
  • Qualifications

    • Understanding of row crops.
    • Experience in marketing agricultural products.
    • Experience working with a board of directors.

    Additional Information

    • Extensive in-state travel and occasional out-of-state travel required.
    • Ability to conduct walkthroughs of agricultural operations and process facilities.
    • Must be able to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and assemble and dismantle exhibits.
    • Duties are diversified, require broad application of organizing, planning and exercising independent judgement.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to serve the public and producers.
    • Proficient in the use of a computer and Microsoft office suite.
    • Position is based in the Wade Hampton building on the Statehouse grounds. This is not a remote position, but there is a significant amount of in-state and out-of-state travel.
