Serving as the civic center of the community, LCPL provides free and equal access to a full variety of library resources and innovative technologies to enhance the quality of life and meet the informational, educational, and cultural interests of the entire community.

Requirements

Loudoun County Public Library is seeking a Collection Development Librarian with strong expertise in digital platforms and a commitment to inclusive, community-centered service. This position leads the selection, promotion, and management of adult nonfiction library materials and electronic resources across a dynamic, multi-branch system.

Under the general direction of the Division Manager of Collection Management Services, the Collection Development Librarian plays a vital role in shaping the library’s offerings for diverse audiences. You’ll assess system-wide needs, curate collections in multiple formats—including print and digital—and ensure that our resources reflect the evolving interests of the communities we serve in Loudoun County.

The successful candidate will:
  • Review and select adult nonfiction library materials, applying extensive knowledge of authors, vendors, and publishers, and contribute to a collection representing varied viewpoints.
  • Assess systemwide needs and priorities for the adult audience in print and digital format.
  • Administer the Library’s electronic resources (such as databases, e-book, music, and movie platforms) and collect and report monthly statistics.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using the Integrated Library System (ILS) and apply appropriate and correct procedures using the Integrated Library System.
  • Work with the Library’s technology and communications divisions to promote Library resources and contribute content to the library's website and digital resource platforms.
  • Inform staff systemwide of updates and changes and oversee staff work related to the curation and promotion of library collections and resources.
  • Use data and collection reports to evaluate needs and priorities.
  • Evaluate new resources and recommend renewal or cancellation of existing resources.
  • Complete special projects as assigned, independently or as a member of a team.
  • Provide courteous and timely customer service to County staff, vendors, citizens, and other visitors; refer customers to appropriate staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited school required; two (2) years of related library experience preferably in public library centralized selection and collection development.
