*Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES The Houston Health Department is actively searching for talented Clinic Assistants to perform the following functions:
Assists with related patient care duties at health center, clinic, hospital, home, mobile unit, or performs outreach duties under the supervision of a licensed medical professional.RESPONSIBILITES:•Obtains and records height, weight and blood pressure of patients.
•Performs specimen collection, phlebotomy, and other essential laboratory duties . Performs simple tests or sends specimens to laboratory for analysis. Maintains records of all transactions.
•Prepares examination rooms for patient treatment and uses autoclave to sterilize equipment.
•Verifies, reviews, and enters patient medical history and records on patients' diseases, operations, immunizations and other pertinent information in electronic health record and databases.
•Assists in inventory, ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
•Assists the Physician, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or Nurse as directed by supervisor.
•Assists with follow-up of patients.
•Performs clerical duties as needed, including registration, maintaining medical screening files and medical service supplies.
•Administers and distributes medications and immunizations per established organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
•Assumes responsibility for assignments and performs duties competently, safely, and efficiently.
•Participates in quality improvement activities including record reviews, chart audits, skills assessments, and competency evaluations.
•Attend required in-service and workshops
WORKING CONDITIONSThe position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or record boxes (up to 50 pounds) and/or very long periods of standing and walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. Completion of a standardized program of medical education that provides training in medically assisting patients.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of related experience in a medical clinic, hospital or other health care facility are required.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMedical Assistant certification is required.
Completion of basic CPR certification required.Medical Assistant and CPR certification must be maintained and current for continued employment.
Qualifications
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
• Completion of Medical Assistant coursework required
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred
• At least 2 years of related experience in a medical clinic, hospital or other health care facility is (required). Medical Assistant Certificate is less than 10 years old (required)
• Experience with EPIC (electronic medical documentation) system is preferred
• Medical Assistant Certification (required)

Pay Grade 9
SALARY INFORMATION GENERAL FUNDED POSITIONFactors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
