This job involves assessing and managing inmates' classifications, assignments to programs or jobs, and providing guidance on their sentences and release dates within a South Carolina prison.
It requires working closely with committees to review progress and make recommendations while ensuring compliance with state policies.
A good fit would be someone with experience in administrative or correctional work who is detail-oriented, fair, and comfortable in a high-security environment.
Classify inmates in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Participate in an institutional orientation program and the initial assignment process of inmates.
Interpret South Carolina statutes pertaining to inmate sentences and computation of time.
Advise inmates on release and eligibility dates and sentence Information.
Receive and review inmates’ requests for custody changes, job and program assignments.
Prepare case reports and update automated reports for periodic review of inmates’ progress by a classification committee.
Make recommendations to the classification committee for assignment and classification of inmates.
Review proposed modifications to inmates’ classification plans and recommend necessary action.
Assign inmates to available employment/educational/treatment program.
Assist in the evacuation of inmates with special treatment needs.
A high school diploma and related experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree.
OR
An associate’s degree and any one (1) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.

A high school diploma and any (2) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
