This job involves assessing inmates' records to assign them to the right facilities, jobs, and programs in a prison, while leading a team that makes these decisions and regularly checking on inmates' progress through interviews and reviews.
It suits someone organized and fair-minded who can handle sensitive information and work with people facing challenges.
A good fit would be those with experience in administration or corrections who are comfortable using computers and communicating with officials.
Under the general supervision of the classification case manager, evaluates automated inmates and manual record to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, jobs and treatment program.
Serves as chairperson of the institutional classification committee.
Coordinates an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
Conducts periodic reviews of inmate's progress.
Interviews inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
Responds to inquiries of information from departmental officials and other agencies.
Operates the SCDC computer system to enter/retrieve information pertaining to inmate's social, criminal, educational and family history.
Performs other related duties as required.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and related experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree;
OR
An associate’s degree and any one (1) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience;
OR
A high school diploma and any (2) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
