In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: experience applying structural engineering analysis in the investigation, design, construction, operation, or maintenance of an infrastructure facility, and conducting inspections of concrete dams.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Major Duties:

This Civil Engineer is available in the Division of Dam Safety Inspections in the Office of Energy Projects.

As a Civil Engineer, some of your typical work assignments may include: Conducting dam inspections, reviewing analyses, and providing technical comments for licensed hydroelectric projects having difficult, complex, and/or controversial features with a focus on the structural elements.

Preparing engineering reports and letters to establish and document the dam safety of the hydroelectric project.

Evaluating the adequacy of design, constructability, and compliance with current engineering criteria and practices.
