This job involves working as a chiropractor at a VA medical center in West Virginia, focusing on treating veterans' musculoskeletal issues through hands-on manipulation and integrative therapies like acupuncture to help them regain independence and improve their quality of life.
A good fit would be a licensed chiropractor with at least two years of experience who is passionate about patient rehabilitation and comfortable in a team-based healthcare environment serving military veterans.
This position is located within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation section (PMRS) under the Division of Rehabilitation Service (DRS) at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg West Virginia.
As part of the integrative Medicine approach for the Division of Rehabilitation Services, position is integral to the CAM initiative to include quality improvement.
Complementary and Alternative medicine practices (such as massage, acupuncture) with integrative Medicine.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Degree of doctor of chiropractic, or its equivalent, resulting from a course of education in chiropractic.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools of colleges approved by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Approved schools are: United States schools of colleges of chiropractic listed as accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, at http://www.cce-usa.org/, or equivalent agency in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.
schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Licensure Current, full and unrestricted license to practice chiropractic in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
The facility Director may waive this requirement if the doctor of chiropractic is to serve in a country other than the United States and the doctor of chiropractic has licensure in that country.
English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English. Grade Requirement.
In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates. Full Grade.
Two years of full-time chiropractic practice or its equivalent.
One year of full-time post-graduate residency specialty training from a chiropractic school or college by the Council on Chiropractic Education, or equivalent agency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, is acceptable in lieu of the 2 years of practice.
Candidate must have demonstrated the professional competence and performance necessary to provide independently the full range of clinical diagnosis and chiropractic treatment for the most prevalent neuro-musculoskeletal conditions including subluxation complex.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting 15-44 pounds, light under 15 pounds, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 2-3 hours, Visual requirement, both eyes required, hearing (hearing aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
Major Duties:
The purpose is to rehabilitate patient to their maximum functional potential with the ideal goal being that of independent living.
Chiropractic treatment has a direct impact on the physical, social, or economic well-being of patients.
Clinical Duties: In accordance with State License, provide care for musculoskeletal conditions using manipulation as a primary intervention.
The legal right to use other procedures including modalities, myofascial work, acupuncture, and nutritional therapy will be determined by State licensure restrictions.
Demonstrates professionalism in accurately evaluating and treating all assigned patients.
Provides appropriate treatment, with emphasis on maximizing function, both in the psychosocial and physical restorative areas.
Assesses effectiveness of treatment daily, and modifies as necessary, always utilizing appropriate graded treatment modalities/activities.
Completes electronic progress notes on patient assigned, at appropriate intervals, including observations of patients' functional status, behaviors pertinent to rehabilitation, relevant short and long-term goals, progress towards discharge, and disposition recommendations.
Refer patients via the consult package when other subspecialty ( for example speech language pathology, neuropsychology, social work, psychology, wheel chair clinic, etc.) involvement is indicated.
Directs Chiropractic assistants, students, or aides in performance of proper patient treatment. Performs co-assessments or treatments with other Rehabilitation disciplines as needed.
Initiates or recommends referrals for follow up treatment and/or specialized assessment by physicians or other health care providers. Assess patients for appropriate assistive devices.
Demonstrates independent professional discretion and has authority to refuse an/or modify request treatment when such treatment is contraindicated or inappropriate.
Participates in DRS' peer review process, staffing and meetings. Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.
