Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a chiropractor in a VA clinic in Auburn, Washington, where you'll evaluate and treat veterans for back, neck, and muscle problems using hands-on techniques, exercises, and possibly acupuncture.

You'll also order tests, refer patients to other doctors, and focus on improving care through learning and teamwork.

Full Job Description

The VA Puget Sound Healthcare System is recruiting for two Chiropractors for their new Clinically Based Outpatient Clinic in Auburn, Washington.

The Chiropractor provides evaluation and management of spine and musculoskeletal conditions to eligible beneficiaries.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Chiropractor Basic Requirements: The individual must be a graduate of a chiropractic college accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education or its successor.

For acupuncture/dry needling, the chiropractor must complete requisite training in accordance with their state or district license.

A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice chiropractic in a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

For acupuncture/dry needling, must maintain current, active, valid and unrestricted appropriate endorsement from state or district of licensure.

To qualify for clinical privileges, must document services for at least 100 patients during the past 24 months.

Optional credentials include postgraduate credits approved or accredited by an appropriate State licensing board, recognized diplomate status, formal hospital staff privileges (or evidence of actively seeking hospital privileges) at a nationally accredited health care facility.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-14. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-14.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Light lifting, under 15 pounds, Light carrying, under 15 pounds; Reaching above shoulders; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Both legs required; Hearing (aid may be permitted); Mental and emotional stability.

Major Duties:

Duties include but are not limited to: Performing patient history and physical examination. Ordering radiological examinations (e.g.

plain-film radiographs, MRI) and laboratory tests (e.g., Vitamin D) Chiropractors provide management of spine and musculoskeletal conditions.

This may include a combination of advice/education, exercise prescription, nutrition advice, physical modalities, equipment prescription, acupuncture/dry needling, and manual therapy approaches.

Manual therapy techniques are applied specific to patient needs and preferences, and may include high-velocity, low-amplitude "thrust" joint manipulation, joint mobilization, instrument or table-assisted manipulation techniques, and manual or instrument assisted soft tissue therapies such as proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation or myofascial release.

Making referrals to other clinicians, primary care providers, PM&R physicians, chemical dependency physicians, pain management physicians, psychologists, and other specialists as appropriate.

Acupuncture and/or dry needling can only be performed if appropriately trained and hospital privileges granted.

Ensure practice-based learning and improvement, chiropractors are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.

Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.

Demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.

Show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision. Performs additional duties as assigned.
