Requirements

In this position, you will undertake first-level supervisory responsibilities, which include providing training, leadership, guidance, and oversight for the Volatile Unit within the Organic Section. This unit consists of a team of skilled chemists who analyze samples for environmentally significant analytes using established methodologies such as EPA, Standard Methods, and DEP-validated procedures. Your responsibilities will involve reviewing laboratory and personnel protocols to detect any discrepancies, as well as assessing workload priorities based on current conditions. You will offer both technical and administrative direction to the Unit.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of probationary period.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Chemist 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a graduate degree in chemistry; or
  • Two years of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor’s degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry.


Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

  • You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
