This job involves testing environmental samples in a lab to check for harmful metals and other substances that affect the environment, using specialized machines and following strict safety rules.
You'll also handle incoming samples, log data into computer systems, and keep equipment running smoothly.
It's a great fit for someone with a chemistry background who enjoys hands-on lab work and wants to help protect the environment in a stable government role.
In this position, you will be responsible for analyzing samples for metal content using Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICP) as well as maintaining analytical instruments, ensuring they are operational, and applying various troubleshooting techniques to address any issues that may arise.
Your analytical duties will require adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while conducting analytical procedures.
It will also be essential to record daily temperature readings for the refrigerators managed by the metals section.
Additionally, you will be responsible for sample receiving which involves daily tasks such as processing samples, unpacking, sorting, and assigning laboratory numbers to inorganic samples.
You will also organize sample containers for distribution to various analytical sections within the laboratory and input sample data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
