Summary

This job is for a chaplain at a Pennsylvania state prison, where you'll provide religious services, counseling, and support to inmates of all faiths in a secure facility.

You'll lead worship for your own faith group while helping arrange services for others and offer spiritual guidance to anyone who needs it.

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
  • Pass a background investigation and meet all legal requirements for working in corrections
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including conducting rounds and counseling in a prison setting

Requirements

As a Chaplain for the Department of Corrections, you would be responsible for serving inmates of all faiths in addition to administering faith-appropriate sacraments, rites and ceremonies for inmates who identify with your faith tradition.

This role conducts faith-specific primary religious gatherings for inmates who share the Chaplain’s broad faith tradition. You will supervise similar accommodations for inmates of other faiths.

Additional duties of this role consist of conducting rounds to inmates in all areas of the facility and conducting spiritual and grief counseling for any interested inmate regardless of the inmate’s spiritual or religious beliefs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday; 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday and Thursday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional pastoral experience and a bachelor’s degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional pastoral experience.

Special Requirements:

  • All candidates are required, at the time of application, to provide documentation from an officially sanctioned faith group dated within one year of the application date stating they are officially sanctioned or authorized to conduct worship/sacred services, and specifying which sacraments, rites, ceremonies, or rituals they are authorized to perform as a religious leader.
  • All employees in the Department of Corrections must complete the Correctional Chaplains Training Course within six months of hire.
  • All employees in the Department of Corrections must maintain their credentials with an officially sanctioned faith group on an annual basis for the duration of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
