Full Job Description
Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist, serves as the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for the South Carolina Department on Aging Home Modification Program.
- Possess knowledge of low-cost, high-impact environmental modifications and adaptive equipment used to optimize the home environment and increase independence for older adults.
- Assist the Occupational Therapist with assessing the older adult’s capacity for ADLs/IADLs in the home environment to identify areas where home modifications will reduce fall risk, improve accessibility, and improve the older adult’s ability to age in place safely.
- Conducts follow-up visit to the home to verify that the home modifications were completed in accordance with local and state regulation codes and to train the client on safe use of adaptive equipment and fall prevention strategies.
- Demonstrate ability to complete standardized forms and applications related to the Home Stabilization Program to include client intake forms, contractor work order reports, and return visit forms.
- Work effectively with the Occupational Therapist, older adults, their families, general contractors, and vendors with planning of minor home repair and modification work orders as deemed necessary.
- Assist the Occupational Therapist with collecting and analyzing data related to fall risk and home modification needs to report to State Congressional Members for continuous state funding.
- Other duties as required to include, but not limited to, participation in the South Carolina Department on Aging outreach events and partnering opportunities, and assists all staff members with the overall mission and direction of the agency.
- Provides feedback to the Occupational Therapist to inform the agency leadership members on any information pertinent to aiding the agency forward. Upon request, assists any staff member in accomplishing the agency’s program responsibilities, goals, and objectives.
Requirements
An associate degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program. Licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
