The position is assigned to the Building and Maintenance Unit, Maintenance and Repair Section, Engineering Service, at the Miami VA Healthcare System (MV AHS).
The position shall be assigned maintenance and repair duties as deemed necessary by the Building Maintenance Unit Foreman.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Major Duties:
Major duties include but are not limited to: Receives assignments with general instructions and relevant details on the work to be performed.
Works from blueprints, drawings, and other specifications, consulting the supervisor as needed for interpretation of technical details.
Responsible for completing assignments from initial layout through final assembly, with work reviewed during progress and upon completion.
Installs, repairs, and replaces doors and door frames, including metal doors and frames. Modifies existing structures, constructs new room partitions, and relocates partitions as needed.
Installs necessary bracing and support for framing and partition work, primarily using metal framing. Installs door hinges and mortises doors for locks.
Installs base molding, toe molding, wainscoting, and chair rails. Performs shop work in the Carpenter Shop using power saws, planers, joiners, drill presses, and portable power tools.
Installs runners, tees, and angles for acoustic suspended ceilings. Installs vinyl floor tile and cove base. Builds and prepares equipment for shipment.
Repairs bulletin boards, shutters, louvers, shades, and staging. Performs repairs to roof leaks.
Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Carpenter/PD04754A Physical Requirements: Carpenters at this level, work in wood shops and at job sites.
When working in a shop, grade 9 carpentry workers stand for extended periods while operating machines such as bench planers, saws, and drill presses.
The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping.
When at a job site, strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, framing members, and other building and construction materials.
Carpentry workers use manual or portable power tools for extended periods in uncomfortable positions.
On-site work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops.
Workers may lift and move materials up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds), unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
