Workdays & Hours: Monday - Thursday, 6:30am - 5:00pm *Subject to change

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates and performs a variety of skilled labor jobs such as bridge construction, framework for wooden structures, concrete work, repair and renovation of furnishings, cabinetry, doors, windows, containers, crates, and flooring, building additions, panels, and glass. Reviews and interprets work orders for required materials, supplies, and equipment to complete assignments and estimated costs for projects. Uses mathematical and analytical skills to perform complex measuring and calculating of projects to ensure accuracy of the design. Ensure all repair and rebuild jobs are completed accurately in accordance with city/state/federal standards, with the appropriate documentation, and within the agreed schedule. Uses issued safety equipment in the intended manner and organizes work procedures to minimize hazards and avoid injury. Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis, and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level.

Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of experience in carpentry are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with a background in bridge construction framework.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:
