This vacancy is for aWG-4607-9, Carpenter located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE NEW ORLEANS in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

(Includes Blueprint Reading) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.

Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Carpenter and be responsible for a variety of work in the construction, altering and repairing of building structures, fittings, panels, partitions and other wood or wood substitute articles.

The position also makes repairs to damaged foam rub rails and plastic boat hulls by preparing and applying fiberglass patches to restore original contour and strength.

Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assemble or installation.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Building, repairing, altering, laying out and/or erecting, sills, beams, corner posts, ridge poles, trusses and frames and installing window frames, doors, outside trim, inside trim, inside walls, laths, sheathing, floors, ceiling, stairs and associated hardware.

Fabricating and repairing wood articles such as benches, tables, lockers, and cases, repairing furniture and repairing wharves, docks and/or other waterfront properties Performing work based on work orders or oral instructions, estimating jobs to determine the methods, techniques, devices, hours and materials needed.

Assembling items with a variety of joining techniques (miters, rabbets, etc.) and using glues and adhesives to secure wood pieces, veneers, and counter tops.
