GENERAL SUMMARY
The Career Navigator serves as a guide and resource for prospective and newly enrolled students, supporting them in making informed decisions about their academic, career, and employment goals.
This role connects students to college systems, workforce pathways, and support services while helping reduce barriers to enrollment, persistence, and completion.
The Career Navigator ensures that career advising occurs with students at multiple entry points, including prospective student inquiry, New Student Orientation, the High School Diploma Program, and through ongoing case management, to ensure support is coordinated, timely, and centered on student needs.
This position will work with students to help them understand how their interests, strengths, and lived experiences connect to academic programs and career pathways that lead to credential completion and living wage employment.
This position requires strong relationship-building skills, a working knowledge of academic and career pathways, and the ability to provide proactive, individualized support to students from diverse backgrounds.
The role also requires an understanding of career development theories, familiarity with a range of industries and occupations and how they intersect with the labor market trends, and knowledge of college programs and resources.
In addition, the Career Navigator serves as a resource for staff and faculty by providing guidance and training that support meaningful career conversations with students.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Recruitment and Outreach
Recruit and outreach to prospective students with a focus on completing next steps to enrollment; presenting and tabling to the College’s community on the educational opportunities.
Career Counseling
Provide one-on-one and group career counseling to students, assist them in self-assessment, career exploration using tools such as SuperStrong and others, and goal setting.
Help students identify their interests, skills, and values to align them with potential career paths.
Assist students in articulating prior learning, work experience, and transferable skills as part of career and program decision making.
Assist students in selecting an academic pathway and creation of academic plan to completion.
Career Planning
Guide students in developing personalized career plans, including selecting relevant labor market information, wage outcomes, courses, transfer pathways, internships, and extracurricular activities.
Help students create long-term strategies to achieve their career objectives. Ensure students are matriculated to an academic pathway that matches their career and transfer goals.
Workshops and Presentations
Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, and seminars on career-related topics such as career exploration, labor market information, resume writing, job search strategies, interview preparation, and professional networking.
Collaborate with campus departments to provide coordinated and comprehensive career development programming.
Lead and support New Student Orientation efforts by helping students understand and navigate through the enrollment steps, institutional expectations, available campus resources, and how to access academic and support services that promote student success.
Resource Referral and Campus Partnerships
Support students enrolled in the High School Diploma Program by monitoring progress toward completion, providing individualized career exploration and guidance, and helping students navigate academic and support services that promote successful matriculation to college.
Connect students to career resources and support services, both on and off campus, that align with their interests and goals, including workshops, career fairs, job search platforms, alumni networks, and professional organizations.
Partners with academic departments, advising teams, workforce development, financial aid, and student support services to ensure consistent career messaging and coordinated care.
Job Search Support
Assist students in developing job search skills such as resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and networking. Provide guidance on utilizing online job boards, internship databases, and other job search platforms.
Industry Research and Alignment
Stay updated on labor market trends, industry developments, and emerging careers.
Conduct research on specific industries or occupations to provide relevant information to students, including salary ranges, required qualifications, and potential growth opportunities.
Maintain strong working knowledge of CCD programs, transfer options, and workforce aligned credentials.
Data Tracking and Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely records of student interactions, services provided, and outcomes.
Provide case management for assigned students through proactive outreach, individualized follow-up, documentation, and coordination with campus and community partners to support student persistence and completion.
Generate reports to track career development activities and student success outcomes.
Participate in assessment and continuous improvement efforts related to student onboarding, early momentum, and equitable access to career pathways.
Identify structural barriers impacting student decision making and elevate insights to recruitment and student success leadership.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, human resources, or a related field.

SELECTION PROCESS
