The Utah State Capitol hosts over 4,400 scheduled events annually, and is seeking an Event Set Up Assistant for functions for Capitol Hill Complex Events. If you are a hardworking person who is punctual, can function independently and pay close attention to detail, this could be the position for you!

The Set-Up Assistant must:

  • be able to consistently lift 50 pounds.

  • be physically capable of performing manual labor, including lifting and positioning of office furniture and event equipment, as well as the use of various tools.

  • have availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.


The best qualified person for this position will:

  • have experience in a labor intensive field, such as maintenance or warehouse work.

  • be punctual for shifts and for scheduled events.

  • be able to work independently and as part of a team.

The Agency/Division
The Capitol Preservation Board (CPB) was created in 1998 by the Utah State Legislature and Governor Michael O. Leavitt. As the Stewards of the Capitol, the Board has the responsibility to maintain, improve, and oversee the buildings and grounds on the Capitol Hill Complex.

Requirements

As the Set-Up Assistant, you will:

  • efficiently set up and remove tables, chairs, podiums, and other necessary equipment for diverse events (weddings, press events, rallies, proms, government meetings, etc.), often working from detailed diagrams.

  • assist with the inventory, inspection, and repair of event equipment and Capitol furniture.

  • coordinate with vendors on the loading/unloading of rented equipment to ensure the protection of facilities and grounds.

  • lock and unlock event spaces and accurately record setup time, and equipment usage.

  • communicate with janitorial services for cleaning of event spaces and equipment.

  • ensure A/V is working properly in event spaces, and provide technical help as needed.

  • assist with email communications.




Qualifications

  • Able to perform manual labor, operate and maintain equipment and tools.

  • Safely lift at least 50 lbs, transfer, and accurately position items using approved lifting techniques and procedures.

  • Preserve confidentiality of sensitive information that may be encountered during the set-up of government events.

  • Knowledge of and up-to-date training pertaining to fire codes, including information subject to room occupancy, egress, and ingress rules (training on this area will be provided).

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and adhere to written and oral instructions.

Additional Information

  • Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines.
  • Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting. Requires the ability to lift 50 lbs.
