Job Description

Summary

This job is for managing the canteen at a correctional facility, where you'll oversee staff, including inmates, handle inventory, sales, and ensure everything runs smoothly while following strict security rules.

It's ideal for someone with experience in retail or inventory management who is organized, trustworthy, and comfortable working in a prison environment.

You'll need to complete basic training after being hired.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Relevant program experience (e.g., retail, inventory, or supervisory roles)
  • Ability to supervise personnel, including civilians and inmates
  • Skills in interviewing, hiring, and terminating inmate workers
  • Proficiency in point-of-sale systems and sales transaction oversight
  • Knowledge of inventory management, including requisitioning, storage, stock rotation, and conducting inventories
  • Commitment to following policy, security procedures, and accurate reporting to prevent losses

Full Job Description

  • Supervision of all canteen personnel, civilian back up and inmates.
  • Interview, hire, and terminate all inmate canteen workers.
  • Oversee sales transactions through the canteen point of sale system.
  • Ensure all adjustments are correctly processed.
  • Maintain proper requisitioning, receipt, and storage of all canteen products.
  • Ensure that all policy and security procedures are followed to prevent loss of product and equipment.
  • Follow procedures to maintain adequate inventory levels and ensure stock rotation.
  • Supervise the daily reporting of sales and receipts to ensure they are accurate.
  • Conduct daily, quarterly, and monthly inventories.
  • Standard position hours may vary per institution and subject to change.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
