This position will be located at Camp Burnt Gin in Sumter County.



Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Camp Director and CYSHCN Nurse Consultant, implement a program of health and safety for the campers and staff of a summer camp for children, teens and young adults who have physical disabilities and/or chronic illnesses.
  • Provides direct nursing care services to campers and staff including but not limited to:
    • Storage and administration of medications.
    • Delivering medically indicated treatments and interventions including g-tube feedings and catheterizations.
    • Providing first aid and emergency medical response.
    • Documentation of all medications, treatments and intervention in the camper and staff medical record.
  • Provides training to, and oversight of, camp staff on health and safety, infection control, and personal care needs of campers.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the infirmary including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, changing and washing linens and emptying trash.
  • Participates in CQI/Quality Assurance activities including:
    • Review of camper records for physician orders for treatments and medicines.
    • Review of camper records for complete and current documentation.
    • Ensuring staff compliance with OSHA regulations.
    • Review of ACA accreditation health and wellness standards to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in nurses training.

Requirements

  • Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse by the SC Board of Nursing or compact state. Associate degree or diploma in nursing and one (1) year experience as a registered nurse; experience in pediatrics, child health, school nursing or public health nursing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with individuals and groups respecting social and cultural diversity and to maintain appropriate boundaries.

Additional Information

  • Camp Nurse lives in the medical building on-site and working hours reflect being on duty24 hours with routine breaks. Camp Nurses are hired for one or more sessions. We offer four-day and six-day sessions. Staff report to work the day before the session begins.

  • IMMUNIZATION: All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Pertussis, Varicella, and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.
  • Normal Work Schedule: This position is located at Camp Burnt Gin in Sumter County and is a residential position. Because it is residential camp staff are required to live at camp while in session.
