Summary

This job involves running the food service at a summer camp in South Carolina for kids and young adults with special health needs, including planning meals, buying supplies, cooking, serving food, and keeping everything clean and safe.

This position will be located at Camp Burnt Gin in Sumter County.

Job Responsibilities:

Plan, manage and direct a Food Service Program for a summer camp for children who have special health care needs, which includes but not limited to.

  • The ordering and purchases of food, paper products and janitorial supplies. Maintaining the records related to purchases and inventory of food, janitorial and non-food supplies. Assist with the storage of stated purchases.
  • Train and supervise the food service staff.
  • Assist with all aspects of food preparation and service including preparing, cooking and serving food according to menu cycle. Modify meals according to special dietary needs of campers.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the cleaning and care of kitchen, food service equipment, pans and dishware. Clean and maintain food preparation and storage areas.
  • Follow and enforce state health department regulations concerning safe food preparation and facility cleanliness.
  • Oversee with the opening and closing of camp.


Requirements

Requirements to qualify for this position are:

  • Must be a high school graduate and have experience and/or training in food preparation and service.
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in food purchasing, bookkeeping and food management
  • Must have knowledge of food safety practices.
  • Experience in the school system food service is desirable.
  • Prior Camp Burnt Gin experience is desirable.
  • Must be able stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 15 lbs.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with individuals and groups respecting social and cultural diversity and maintain appropriate boundaries.

Additional Information

  • Camp Burnt Gin is a summer camp for children, teens and young adults who have special health care needs. The job requires employee to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Workdays vary according to camp schedule and there are scheduled days off between camp sessions. Some weekend work may be required on occasion. The morning shift work schedule is 7:00 am – 1:30 pm. The afternoon shift is 1:00 pm – 7:30 pm.
