Job Description
Summary
This job involves helping in an institutional kitchen by preparing simple foods like salads and sandwiches, serving meals to patients or cafeteria customers, and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean through tasks like dishwashing and mopping.
It's a hands-on role in a hospital or similar setting under close supervision.
A good fit would be someone reliable and physically able who enjoys teamwork in food service and doesn't mind routine cleaning duties.
Key Requirements
- Boston city residency required
- Ability to perform routine food preparation tasks like chopping vegetables and assembling meals
- Skills in operating basic kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, mixers, and slicers
- Experience with cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas, dishes, and serving equipment
- Capability to serve meals on lines or to patients, including delivering trays to wards
- Physical ability to lift, sweep, mop, and handle waste removal
- Basic record-keeping and occasional cash register operation
Full Job Description
Under immediate supervision, performs work of routine difficulty assisting in the preparation and serving of meals, and in heavy cleaning and care of food preparation, serving, eating, and storage areas in the kitchen and cafeteria areas in an institutional kitchen; performs related work as required.Requirements
Cleans dishes, silverware, trays, pots, urns, etc.; operates dishwashing equipment; cleans serving line equipment, ovens, preparation benches, cafeteria tables and institutional appliances; sweeps and mops kitchen and cafeteria areas and removes waste using appropriate sanitary procedures.Prepares vegetables, sandwiches, special beverages, salads, simple desserts, etc.; operates electrical and/or manual kitchen appliances such as mixers, blenders, slicing machines, etc. Assembles processed foods, salads, desserts, etc. and portions into individual servings.
Serves on cafeteria serving line and/or thermal tray conveyor line; serves to disabled patients at cafeteria tables; restocks serving line; delivers thermal tray carts to hospital wards and serves meal trays to ward patients; distributes nourishments (eg.
juices, milk, crackers, jellies, etc.) to patients and/or into refrigerators on the wards.
Stores and packages eating utensils for distribution.
Qualifications
