Summary

This job is for a teacher who instructs inmates at a Pennsylvania prison on construction trades, focusing on hands-on skills in plumbing and heating to prepare them for careers after release.

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion is seeking a motivated Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher.

Requirements

As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher in the construction cluster and building trades, you will develop curriculum, course outlines, and lesson plans in order to teach relevant trade theory and job skills.

You will also determine appropriate classroom procedures and provide shop instruction for plumbing and heating skillsets used in construction and building projects.

This role requires effective communication and the ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students and foster learning.

In addition, you will use tests to assess student growth, order and inventory classroom supplies, and monitor student behavior in order to maintain an effective learning environment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Construction Cluster/Building Trades. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.


Special Requirements:

  • You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
