Summary

This job involves leading a team of inmates in cleaning and maintaining buildings in a county jail setting, including tasks like sweeping, mopping, and handling laundry while ensuring safety and following rules.

  • Two years of directly related custodial or building services experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Valid driver's license from state of residency
  • Ability to obtain CPR certificate within 90 days
  • Ability to obtain First Aid certificate within 90 days
  • Ability to obtain State Inmate Supervisor certificate within 90 days
  • Pass pre-employment drug test, background check, and fingerprinting; subject to random testing and on-call duties

Job Description

This position supervises an inmate crew that performs custodial and various building services duties. The incumbent is responsible for applying cleaning techniques, supervisory principles, chemical safety precautions, and inventory control procedures.

Essential Duties
  • Prioritize and assign work.

  • Train inmates.

  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a safe working environment.

  • Recommend inmate transfers.

  • Perform custodial work such as vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, dusting, and laundry.

  • Remove surplus equipment and furnishings.

  • Conduct periodic maintenance of a minor nature on equipment.

  • Clean equipment and supplies.

Other Job Requirements/Information

  • Pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Public safety background which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
  • Fingerprinting.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
Grade
The grade for this position is A131. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of coursework up through 8th grade (High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred), and two years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

  • Valid driver's license from state of residency.
