The Washington Military Department has an exciting opportunity to join our State Maintenance - Air East team as a journey-level maintenance mechanic. Our organization is committed to maintaining safe, functional, and high-quality facilities that support productivity and comfort for all occupants. We are seeking a dedicated, skilled, and detailed-oriented individual who takes pride in delivering reliable journey-level maintenance services.

Reporting to the Maintenance Specialist 4 for East Region of State Maintenance - Air East, the successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that Air Guard facilities, building systems, equipment, and infrastructure are properly maintained and operating efficiently.

This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

Requirements


  • Responsible to independently perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of all phases of maintenance repair work on facilities and grounds.
  • Operates and maintains construction tools and equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs domestic water distribution systems and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Maintains, installs, and repairs fire protection systems.
  • Maintains steam distribution systems.

Qualifications


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic 1;

OR

  1. High School diploma or GED; AND
  2. Three years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, and/or repair work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification / License:
  • Water Distribution Manager Certificate of Competency.
  • Back flow testing license.
  • Cross connection control specialist.
Knowledge of:
  • Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the plumbing trade.
  • Plumbing codes/regulations.
  • Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building and maintenance work.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building trades.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural and mechanical systems and components.
Skills, Abilities and Competencies to:
  • Perform journey-level work in all types of building maintenance.
  • Perform basic locksmith services on facility locking devices.
  • Read plans and blueprints.
  • Effectively layout and perform all types of building maintenance and construction installation, alteration and repairs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement plumbing activities for maintenance and construction projects.
  • Perform alteration, repair, and installation of plumbing systems.
  • Operate stand office equipment, including personal computer (outlook and internet).
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.

Additional Information


Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background Investigation:
Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC). Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.

Union Shop Provision: This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).


Driver's License:

  1. Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
  2. Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.

Military Facility: Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.
Camp Murray and Fairchild AFB utilize the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver’s License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.

Work Hours: Normal schedule will be Tuesday - Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm (4/10 schedule).

Telework: This position is not eligible for telework.

Emergency Assignment: Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.

Travel: Occasional statewide travel may be required up to 5% to include overnight stays.
