BUILDING & CODE COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR AIDE
This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Resource Management Agency (RMA). The anticipated life of the employment list is six months.

Current vacancy is with the RMA Building & Housing Department located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months.
This position will support the Building & Housing Manager with daily department activities and is responsible to learn procedures involving construction methods, enforcement of pertinent codes, zoning ordinances and regulations to perform the more routine inspection duties in the building and code compliance inspection field.
To learn the techniques of building inspection and the investigation of suspected zoning violations and ordinances.
Requirements
DUTY SAMPLE
- Learn to interpret and determine appropriate zoning code sections and ordinances for meeting requirements of materials and structures.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of logs, records, reports, and correspondence related to Building & Code inspections and enforcement activities.
- Coordinate and schedule Building & Code compliance inspections and appointments.
- Interpret and apply County ordinance and codes.
- Prepare, record and file daily code enforcement inspection reports.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth(12th) grade.
Experience:
- One (1) year of increasingly responsible clerical duty assignments related to construction, inspection, architecture, administration of regulatory ordinances, preparation of physical planning documents, and/or similar Building & Code compliance areas.
Knowledge of:
- Federal, State, and Local statutes, ordinances, rules, policies, and standard codes as applicable to departmental needs.
- Court procedures.
- General departmental functions, policies and procedures and basic forms and permits used.
- Departmental filing system and practices.
Skill/Ability to:
- Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
- Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment. Write and print clearly, uniformly and legibly.
- Read and comprehend technical documents, policies, and procedures sufficient to answer questions or refer to proper authority.
- Deal effectively and courteously with groups or individuals involved in the building industry, permit applicants and co-workers.
- Use patience, tact, courtesy, and self-restraint in dealing with professionals and the general public; code, sort, post, check or verify detailed data.
- Complete and record receipts,
- Learn to adjust to changes in workloads or assignments as well as work under stress of meeting deadlines.

License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Additional Information
Conditions of Employment:
- Candidates selected may be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.
