Job Description

Summary

This job is for a Budget Officer in the U.S.

Attorney's Office in Detroit, where you'll manage the office's finances, create and track budgets for short and long-term needs, and ensure money is spent correctly to support legal work.

It's ideal for someone with strong experience in financial planning and oversight who enjoys working in a government setting focused on law enforcement.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must possess: GS-13: To be eligible at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level as defined below.

Specialized experience is defined as independently formulating, presenting, and executing short and long-range budgets; monitoring obligations, appropriating funds, and validating expenses; developing internal budget policies and procedures; preparing budget estimates and projections; analyzing legislation and developing justification narratives; reviewing work completed by others to ensure accuracy and efficiency; or serving as a budget advisor, explaining budget policies, and giving briefings to higher management.

If selected, you will serve as the Budget Officer for the United States Attorney's Office - Eastern District of Michigan, who is responsible for the management and control of the district's short and long-range budget.

The work involves maintaining a comprehensive financial management program to include budgeting, accounting, internal controls and financial reporting.

The incumbent will serve as the district's technical expert on the financial operations of the district.

Typical work assignments will include: Planning, formulating, justifying, implementing, and administering budget and financial management activities Providing positive recommendations and alternative approaches to improve program plans, budget proposals, costs of operations, and program accomplishments Preparing budget justifications for recommended allocation levels, particularly deviations from initial office submissions Planning work to be accomplished and setting priorities in financial management Assigning work to others based on difficulty of assignments and staff capabilities Reviewing work completed by others to ensure accuracy and efficiency Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
