Full Job Description

Bond Technicians work alongside Bond Desk Deputies operating the Tarrant County Bond Desk, which is a 24/7 operation. The primary function of the Bond Technicians is to prepare a variety of bail bonds as they are received at the Bond Desk for individuals to be released from custody on those charges. The Bond Desk also interprets court proceedings to ensure the judge’s intent is being followed. The skillset and knowledge of the Bond Technicians is unique and includes not only Bond Desk standard procedures and legal requirements but an understanding of other departments’ procedures and policies including Booking, Release, Magistrate Courts, Courts, and Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Requirements

Prepares bail bonds for releasing prisoners from custody (e.g. probable cause misdemeanors, pre-indictments, indictments, Class C, cash bonds, fugitive fines, and civil).

Generates IRS 8300 form for cash bonds over $10,000.00. Reviews bond documents submitted by bondsmen and attorneys to verify accuracy.

Determines if bondsmen or attorneys are in good standing to post a bond.

  • Creates and updates bookings and bond records for persons incarcerated and posting bond in city jails (No Books).
  • Updates bond status on affidavit of release of surety when notified by TCSO Warrants Division of subjects in custody.

    Upon updating the status of the bond to Sheriff Verification of Incarceration (SVIC), releases collateral used for the bond for return to bondsmen.

    Processes 17.16s (affidavit of release of surety for subjects in custody) for bondsmen and attorneys. Notifies the court that bondsmen are no longer on bond for defendant.

    Sends notification requesting the charges be booked in or requests new warrants issued as appropriate.

  • Receives phone calls from the public, bondsmen, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, court officials, and judges. Answers questions and resolves issues.
  • Trains new hires on bond processes.
  • Processes drop slips from other agencies via mail or email, changes bond status, and notifies appropriate court and agency personnel.
  • Provides direction and guidance to jail personnel, law enforcement agencies, and court staff regarding bonds and maintains flow of paperwork.
  • Furnishes bond, fine, and release information to families, bondsmen and their agents, and attorneys on incarcerated subjects.
  • Checks various state and federal databases to verify warrant information on subjects who surrender at Bond Desk to post bonds.
  • Interprets court orders to ensure appropriate action is taken. Verifies bond reductions issued in court. Ensures time and money is calculated accurately for subjects sentenced to jail time.
  • Adds sex offender information into the system if not already entered. Updates mug shots for sex offenders.
  • Balances and logs bond totals for the day including surety bonds, cash bonds, and fines.
  • Obtains official state identification and personal information from persons turning themselves in on active warrants.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Eighteen (18) months of work experience.
    • Must be bondable. Must be able to obtain TLETS Less than Full Access and Notary Public within six (6) months of hire.
    • Must have basic knowledge of data entry, ability to operate standard office equipment, and ability to type. Excellent writing and oral communications skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and deal with heavy workload and long work hours.
