Job Description

Summary

This part-time role involves providing counseling and therapy to people facing mental health challenges, addictions, family issues, and other life stressors, including conducting assessments, creating treatment plans, and working both in an office and community settings.

It's ideal for a licensed mental health professional with experience in evidence-based therapies who enjoys helping individuals and families build healthier lives.

The position is 19.5 hours per week with no benefits, focused on public health support in Nashville.

Key Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or related field (or bachelor’s plus 3 years in public health or related area)
  • Licensed or license-eligible (within 1 year) as LPC/MHSP, LCSW, or LMFT in Tennessee
  • At least 3 years of experience in counseling using evidence-based models like CBT, Trauma-Based CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, or Attachment Therapy
  • Ability to perform face-to-face intakes, assessments, and develop/modify treatment plans
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and other professionals
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through literature, courses, and networking

Full Job Description

This position will help individuals deal with complex and comorbid diagnosis which may include serious persistent mental health illness, addictions, and substance abuse; family, parenting, marital problems, and challenges with social drivers of health; suicide; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging, physical, mental, and emotional health by providing therapeutic/Counseling services.

Requirements

  • Perform face-to-face intake for consumers who have been referred to MPHD and assess for care management, medication management, or therapy eligibility.
  • Complete all intake evaluation paperwork: initial intake and grief assessment.
  • Determine an individual’s appropriateness for care management, medication management, or therapy and assign as appropriate.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic framework to provide counseling for consumers and patients, individually and group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in the consumer’s status.
  • Learn about new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, establishing, and maintaining contact with other clinicians.
  • Provide clinical counseling services to family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting consumers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling services and consumers’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
  • Refer patients, consumers, or family members to case managers or to other specialists as necessary.
  • Meet with families, clinic providers, care managers, and other interested parties to share necessary information during the treatment process.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, primary care practice partners, including pediatricians, doctors, nurse practitioners, office staff, and referral sources, as assigned to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited (4) four-year college or university and three (3) years of responsible, full-time employment in public health administration, public health sanitation, public health nursing, public health education, business administration, or another appropriate field
    OR
    Graduation from an accredited master’s degree program in Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or a related field.

Additional Information

  • Licensed and or license eligible (within 1 year) with either LPC/MHSP, LCSW, or LMFT in the state of TN.
  • 3 Years’ experience with counseling, therapeutic using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Based CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Attachment Therapy, or any other evidence-based therapeutic model.
  • Master’s degree and or Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
