Permanent and legal residents of the US must be citizens of a NATO country, unless authorized to reside in the UK as a dependent of an employee who serves in support of the US Visiting Forces.
Eligible applicants must possess a US-issued social security number and be able to provide documentation proving residency status in the UK. Documentation could include PCS Orders, UK Visa, etc.
Applicants cannot be 'ordinarily resident'.
A person is considered to be 'ordinarily resident' if they have resided in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 366 days without an affiliation to the US Visiting Forces.
Time spent in the UK as an employee, or dependent of an employee, of a US agency serving and supporting the US Visiting Forces (i.e., active duty military, federal civilian, AAFES, Red Cross, one of the contract universities, a military banking facility or federal credit union, or US government contractors) is not counted toward being 'ordinary resident'.
In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens (including UK dual citizens) may not apply for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base.
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience (MUST BE SUPPORTED IN RESUME): Experience using electric clippers and basic barbering tools to produce uniform, regulation-style haircuts.
Experience following established grooming standards, written procedures, and supervisory instructions.
Experience maintaining sanitation, hygiene, and infection control practices in a barbering environment.
Experience providing routine, repetitive barbering services in a high-volume or institutional setting. Major Duties:
1. Performs standard short military haircuts in accordance with DAFI 36-2903 and other applicable military grooming standards and installation policies. 2.
Uses electric clippers and basic hand tools (e.g., combs, scissors for edging only) to execute uniform, regulation-compliant haircuts; no layering, styling, or specialty techniques performed. 3.
Consults briefly with patrons to confirm desired haircut length and appearance, ensuring compliance with military requirements. 4.
Maintains sanitary and hygienic conditions of barbering tools, equipment, and workstations in accordance with health, safety, and infection control regulations. 5.
Cleans and disinfects clippers, chairs, capes, and work areas after each patron and at the end of each shift. 6.
Ensures proper handling, storage, and disposal of barbering supplies and waste materials. 7.
Provides efficient, high-volume service while maintaining consistency and quality appropriate to a barber operation. 8.
Observes safety precautions in the use of electrical equipment and sharp instruments to prevent injury to patrons and self. 9.
Provides courteous, professional customer service consistent with NAF service standards. 10. Reports equipment malfunctions, supply shortages, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
