Summary

This entry-level job involves assisting experienced mechanics with the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of gasoline and diesel engines in vehicles and equipment, mainly for Hawaii's state highways department.

Requirements

Performs mechanical work in the adjustment, maintenance and repair of gasoline or diesel engines and motorized equipment under the supervision of a higher level automotive mechanic, performs routine tasks involved in the major overhaul of engines; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Experience: TWO (2) YEARS of work experience as an apprentice or helper under a journey-level automotive mechanic; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Note: experience in repair of personal vehicles or hobby repair is NOT creditable.

Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The vacancy has this requirement.
