Key Requirements

  • Possession of or eligibility for Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Instruction Certificate I or II in Auto Mechanics/Inspection/Technology
  • Or possession of or eligibility for Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate in the specified field
  • Ability to deliver theoretical and hands-on instruction in automotive repair

Requirements

In this role, you will be instrumental in providing education to inmate students in automotive mechanics and related vocational skills, blending theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on training. You will tailor curriculum materials based on screening and placement assessments, employing diverse teaching techniques to cater to individual learning needs. Your responsibilities include delivering classroom and shop instruction pertinent to automotive maintenance and repair, assigning and evaluating homework, and developing assessments to gauge student progress throughout the curriculum.

Additionally, you will maintain accurate education records in compliance with DOC and SCI policies, track attendance and inventory, and manage classroom supplies and equipment orders. To foster a productive learning environment, you will monitor inmate behavior, establish classroom rules, and address any disruptions through appropriate disciplinary measures, ensuring that all tools and materials are accounted for and reported as necessary!

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Auto Mechanics/Inspection/Technology. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years.

Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of or eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Instruction Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be in possession of or eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.


Conditions of Employment:

  • You must maintain the minimum teaching certification for the specified parenthetical as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education's current regulations.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
