Requirements

Job Summary:
This position serves as a Custodial Work Leader, operating independently to perform the full range of custodial tasks, work leaders exercise some control over the continual work product of others. In addition to work lead responsibilities, this position performs custodian work by cleaning and sanitizing facilities for the students, staff, faculty and customers of Auraria Campus facilities by sweeping, mopping and/or vacuuming floors, cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and stocking the restrooms with needed supplies. Timely removal of waste and recyclable materials. Snow removal and ice abatement as needed.
The scheduled shift for this position is a swing shift position Monday - Thursday 5:00 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. and Friday 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Essential Job Functions:
The pay rate listed is $21.63 per hour, which includes a 7.5% shift differential or $1.51 per hour for swing shift hours worked. The pay rate for this position without the 7.5% shift differential is $20.12 per hour.

Responsible for supervising custodial staff and ensuring high-quality cleaning and maintenance of campus facilities. Duties include:

Custodian Work Lead:
  • Oversees the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of work performed by Custodian I staff on their team.
  • Leads daily custodial operations, including assigning tasks, monitoring work, and assisting staff with cleaning campus facilities (interior and exterior spaces).
  • Serves as the first-level supervisor for Custodian I employees and elevates performance issues when needed.
  • Manages scheduling, approves leave, coordinates coverage for special projects, and maintains required staff documentation.
  • Provides training and guidance on equipment use, chemical handling, safety practices, PPE, SDS awareness, and agency policies.
  • Communicates division updates, policy changes, and operational expectations; conducts regular staff meetings.
  • Completes nightly shift reports and attendance entries when the supervisor is absent.
  • Supports the supervisor by ensuring supply closets are stocked and laundry tasks are completed.
Cleaning of Interior Areas of Auraria Campus Facilities
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, offices, conference rooms, lounges, food court areas, stairwells, elevators, corridors, and other assigned spaces.
  • Services and restocks restrooms.
  • Collects and empties trash and recycling from receptacles and common areas.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors as needed.
  • Cleans glass, mirrors, and partitions using appropriate cleaning solutions and tools.
  • Follows roper procedures for chemical use and power equipment to protect surfaces and fixtures.
  • Handles solid waste and desk-side/community recycling throughout facilities.
Cleaning of Exterior Auraria Campus Facilities:
  • Cleans and removes debris, litter, and graffiti from exterior building areas.
  • Empties exterior trash and litter from outdoor receptacles and common areas such as entryways and sidewalks.
  • Sweeps and maintains building entryways and exits, keeping them free of litter.
  • Cleans exterior windows and surfaces using appropriate cleaning solutions and tools.
  • Uses the correct containers and equipment for mixing and applying cleaning solutions.
  • Removes graffiti from exterior walls and floor surfaces using approved chemical solutions.
Building Management
  • Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after hours and checking equipment to prevent hazards.
  • Alerts management when major repairs, safety concerns, or physical security issues are identified.
  • Maintains proper control and security of issued keys needed to perform daily duties.
Equipment Maintenance/Routine duties:
  • Empties and cleans vacuums, auto-scrubbers, buckets, and hydro-vacs each day.
  • Keeps custodial workstations clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Maintains custodial workstations in a safe condition by preventing fire, spill, and other hazards.
  • Follows proper procedures for safely storing discarded chemical products prior to disposal by the health and safety team.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair to the Supervisor, Superintendent, or Director.
Non-Routine Cleaning/Maintenance Projects:
  • Leads and coordinates staff on non-routine cleaning and maintenance projects, including assigning, monitoring, and inspecting work.
  • Moves and stocks custodial closets with bulk supplies.
  • Performs major window washing and blind dusting as needed.
  • Conducts restorative floor and carpet care, including stripping, sealing, finishing, and polishing.
  • Assists with moving and setting up tables, chairs, and other furniture or equipment for projects.
  • Transports event equipment (tables, chairs, etc.) to and from storage, loading docks, or vehicles by hand or with carts or other equipment.
Water Extraction, Upholstery Care, and Seasonal Exterior Safety:
  • Removes water, debris, and moisture from carpeted floors and upholstered furniture using appropriate extraction equipment and disinfectants.
  • Cleans upholstery by hand or with extraction tools according to scheduled maintenance needs.
  • Clears snow and ice from walkways, ramps, and stairs to maintain safe access to buildings.
  • Applies de-icer as needed to keep entrances safe and accessible during winter conditions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of full-time custodial or laundry experience in a professional work setting.
  • Valid unencumbered Colorado drivers license.
Conditions of Employment:
  • The person selected for this position must maintain their ability to stand for long periods of time as well as kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and grab in the performance of job-related duties.
  • This person selected for this position must maintain their ability to perform the physical demands of this position which include physical manipulating and moving furniture and supplies in excess of 100 lbs. on a frequent basis as well as 20 lbs. to 50 lbs. (occasionally).
  • Must be willing and able to withstand exposure to dust and fumes associated with cleaning agents and custodial work.
  • Must be willing and able to be exposed to adverse weather while performing snow removal duties in front of building entry/exit ways (as needed).
  • Must maintain a valid unencumbered drivers license.
