Summary

This job is for a daytime custodian at the Auraria Campus in Denver, where you'll keep classrooms, offices, restrooms, and outdoor areas clean and tidy for students and staff at three universities.

Schedule and Job Summary:
This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies.
Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. OR 7:00 a.m. to 3.30p.m. based on business needs of the department.

As a Custodian I, this position is responsible for performing general custodial duties; and is responsible for cleaning offices, classrooms, labs, hallways, lounges and restrooms throughout the Auraria Campus. Duties include disinfecting restrooms and drinking fountains; restocking soap and paper products in dispensers; washing entrance windows; cleaning chalkboards, trays and erasers; reporting insect and rodent infestation; emptying and cleaning waste containers and disposing of the trash in the dumpster; dusting or washing furniture; sweeping, dusting, damp mopping, and vacuuming in all areas and moving furniture and removing snow from walks when necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
Cleaning of Interior Areas of Facilities Management:
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms.
  • Collecting, removing, and disposing of trash and recycling from common areas.
  • Cleaning glass surfaces, mirrors, and partitions using appropriate tools and solutions.
  • Following established procedures for chemical use and power-equipment operation to protect floors, fixtures, and finishes.
  • Removing solid waste, recycling, and compost from designated areas.
  • Performing proper floor-care procedures, including cleaning, maintenance, and applying finish.
Cleaning of Exterior Areas of Facilities Management:
  • Collecting and emptying trash and litter from exterior receptacles and outdoor common areas, including entryways, sidewalks, and seating areas.
  • Sweeping and maintaining building entrances and exits, ensuring walkways are clean and free of debris.
  • Cleaning exterior windows and other outdoor surfaces using appropriate tools and cleaning solutions, as needed.
  • Preparing and properly labeling cleaning solutions for use in spray bottles, mop buckets, and other equipment.
  • Removing graffiti from exterior walls, walkways, and other surfaces using approved chemical solutions.
Building Management:
  • Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours and checking equipment to ensure no hazards are present.
  • Notify the lead, director or CIV of any major repair needs or safety concerns involving buildings or physical security systems.
  • Maintain the security of all issued keys and ensure they are used and stored in accordance with campus protocols.
Non-Routine Cleaning/Maintenance Projects:
  • Perform major window washing and dusting of blinds.
  • Conducting general and restorative floor maintenance, including stripping, scrubbing, sealing, finishing, and polishing hard-surface floors.
  • Assist with moving and positioning tables, chairs, and other furniture or equipment for projects and floor-care activities.
  • Transport tables, chairs, and other items to and from storage areas, loading docks, or delivery vehicles by hand or using hand trucks or other equipment.
Equipment Maintenance/Routine Duties:
  • Transport floor-care in a safe and efficient manner, avoiding unnecessary strain or damage.
  • Empty, clean, and inspect vacuums, auto-scrubbers, buckets, wet/dry vacuums, and other floor-care equipment daily.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked custodial workstations with the supplies and materials needed for assigned areas.
  • Follow established procedures for the safe storage of discarded chemical products prior to disposal by the Health and Safety Department.
  • Report any equipment in need of repair to the Supervisor promptly.
Specialty and Emergency Work & Other Duties as assigned:
  • Remove standing water or debris and extract moisture from carpeted floors and upholstered furniture using disinfectants and appropriate equipment.
  • Clean upholstery by hand or with extraction equipment according to scheduled maintenance plans.
  • Perform standard custodial duties as assigned by the Supervisor when specialty or emergency needs arise.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways, ramps, and stairs to maintain safe access to buildings.
  • Apply de-icer as needed to keep entrance clear, safe, and accessible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Six (6) months of full-time custodial or laundry experience in a professional work setting.
  • Valid unencumbered Colorado driver's license.
Conditions of Employment:
  • The person selected for this position must maintain their ability to stand for long periods of time as well as kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and grab in the performance of job-related duties.
  • This person selected for this position must maintain their ability to perform the physical demands of this position which include physical manipulating and moving furniture and supplies in excess of 100 lbs. on a frequent basis as well as 20 lbs. to 50 lbs. (occasionally).
  • Must be willing and able to withstand exposure to dust and fumes associated with cleaning agents and custodial work.
  • Must be willing and able to be exposed to adverse weather while performing snow removal duties in front of building entry/exit ways (as needed).
  • Must maintain a valid unencumbered driver's license.
  • Please note that if offered employment, candidate will be required to furnish a copy of the motor vehicle report (MVR) as part of the background check process.
