Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an audiologist at a U.S.

military hospital in South Korea, where you'll assess and treat hearing and communication issues for patients, including soldiers and families, using tools like hearing aids and advanced devices.

You'll also collaborate with other healthcare teams to provide counseling and support tailored to each person's needs.

About the Position: Serve as a qualified professional audiologist whose primary duty is to provide clinical care and management functions in support of Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital and Medical Department Activity-Korea (MEDDDAC-K) Hearing Program, Directorate of Surgery, Department of Surgery, Audiology Service, Located at Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Basic Requirements for Audiologist: Degree: A graduate or higher level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice.

The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology(CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: conducting audiology assessments to diagnose hearing or communicative disorders; developing treatment or management plans for patients to include both adults and children; and providing recommendations for hearing aids or hearing protection devices.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Evaluate complicated patients with communication disorders and assume full professional treatment process.
  • Diagnose degree of communication disorder created by hearing loss and other potentially complicating factors.
  • Provide intervention, assistive listening devices and technologically advanced amplification systems.
  • Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team which must coordinate with other patients with multiple handicapping conditions receive the coordinated care they need.
  • Provide professional counseling in difficult cases to minimize the patient's and/or family's fears of the testing process, disability in general, and to explain what corrective measures are possible.
  • Consider communication, cultural, educational, and vocational needs of patients.
  • Collaborate with other professionals in case management based on individual patient needs.
  • Assist with the training and implementing of the Agency’s Hearing Conservation program.
