Summary

This job involves teaching advanced anesthesia nursing to graduate students in the U.S.

About the Position: Serves as an Associate Professor working for the U.S. Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN).

Expert in the field of Anesthesia, planning and implementing assignments, resolving conflicts, coordinating work with colleagues and interpreting policies for the U.S.

Basic Requirement for Associate Professor (Anesthesia Nursing): Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience as a certified registered nurse anesthetist teaching graduate level curriculum and administration of anesthesia; experience with or assisting in the use of complex integrated simulation technology and ultrasound guided regional anesthesia.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Major Duties:

  • Develop, evaluate, modify and instruct doctoral level classes in fundamentals of anesthesia.
  • Integrate nursing science with biophysical sciences to prepare nurses for the highest level of advanced nursing practice in the specialty of anesthesia.
  • Coordinate the simulation program experiences involving specialty area of anesthesia practice, such as pharmacology and regional anesthesia.
  • Plan, refine and assist in presenting approximately 122 credit hours of doctoral level nurse anesthesia education in the US Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN).
  • Teaches the formulation of anesthetic care plans, anesthetic techniques, prevention of patient complications, procedures and equipment requirements, monitoring, record keeping and care of equipment.
