Base salary range: $147,649 - $221,900

Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves inspecting construction sites for public works projects like roads and bridges, ensuring everything follows the approved plans and rules, and handling changes or issues that come up during building.
It also includes supervising teams, communicating with the public and other agencies, and managing budgets and contracts.
A good fit would be someone with engineering experience in construction, strong people skills, and knowledge of state transportation standards, ideally with a professional engineering license or certification.

• Assign work, give instructions and resolve difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing the work involved in the planning, design and construction of highways, flood control and drainage structures, or review and approval of structural or grading plans.
• Direct the activities of a group of field engineering personnel in analyzing field data, plans, profiles, maps, and related drawings necessary for construction work and inspection of capital improvement projects.
• Review grading, roadway and structure plans for conformity to standard specifications, local ordinances, state regulations, and administrative policies.
• Supervise the review of structural drawings, specifications and related contract documents to be used in advertising construction projects for bids.
• Provide technical information to officials of other governmental jurisdictions, other engineers and the public.
• Coordinate with public utility companies in matters of facility relocation, construction, and right-of-way.
• Supervise and monitor the construction progress, job expenditures, and budget programs; supervise the preparation of requests for change orders.
• Supervise the preparation of progress pay and final estimates on contracts.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
(Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers may substitute for the required education.) Experience: Two years of professional civil engineering experience, including one year in either
1) the planning, design and construction of highways, sanitary landfills or flood control projects; or
2) review and approval of grading or structural plans for permit issuance.
Other Requirements:
Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
Experience: Two years of professional civil engineering experience, including one year in either
1) the planning, design and construction of highways, sanitary landfills or flood control projects; or
2) review and approval of grading or structural plans for permit issuance.
Other Requirements:
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer (PE) issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required. This position involves travel to various locations throughout the county to conduct site visits.
